Located in the heart of the East Texas pineywoods, Jasper is centered at the crossroads of U.S. Hwy 96 and 190. The community itself holds small town appeal, visible in its many historical buildings. This lake is located in the rugged canyon country of the Palo Pinto Mountains and Brazos River Valley. It sports 20,000 acres of the clearest, bluest water in the southwest. Falcon Dam was dedicated by Mexican President Adolfo Ruiz Cortines and President Dwight D. Eisenhower in October 1953. The waters of the Rio Grande River have formed a beautiful 60-mile-long lake behind the dam. Falcon Lake is a big fishing paradise, especially for those seeking black and white striped bass. Lake Meredith lies on the dry and windswept High Plains of the Texas Panhandle. There is camping at 11 designated campgounds, though most don't have RV hook ups. But there are dumping facilities around the lake. There is also plenty of fishing and hunting available as well as horse back riding. The peaceful setting provides a friendly environment for a host of birds, animals and weekenders seeking the pleasures of this piney woods paradise. Choke Canyon State Park is comprised of two units, Calliham and South Shore, surrounding the 26,000-acre reservoir. Both units provide developed (RV) and primitive campsites, hiking/birding trails, boat ramps, and playgrounds. The 1,100-acre Calliham Unit also offers a swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts,a baseball diamond, gymnasium, dining hall, and screened shelters. The restricted access 1,700-acre North Shore Area accounts for most of the parks trail system, offering 18 miles of hiking and equestrian trails and campsites. Area RV Camping
