Invades Padre
After postponement because of the threat of Hurricane Rita, Oh Boy! Redfish Cup Tournament Championship is set to open on sunny South Padre Island, attracting the best redfish anglers in the nation for $130,000 in prize money...

It was meant to be held earlier in the season, the $130,000.00 Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup Tournament Championship. But thanks to the threat of Hurricane Rita, the event scheduled in South Padre Island was postponed to this weekend. So it should be no surprise that teams are doubly anxious to hit the water as thy vie for the national championship prize money of the premiere redfish event of the year.
Roll out the red (fish) carpet, because the top redfish teams in the nation will be arriving to test their skills in the redfish infested bay that separates the island from the coastline, a popular and productive saltwater sport fishing area of Texas. These boys are serious about their fishing, and are winding down a championship series that started last May in Mobile, Alabama. All stakes are on the line and all stops are pulled. The popular angling resort may have never had so many serious 'redfishers' attacking the bay with skill and determination and so many eyes upon them all at the same time.
Less than 30-points separate the top five teams coming into the final championship round being staged at South Padre Island's Fishbone Pier & Grill, part of the Destination RV Resort facility on South Padre island. Some 80 anglers who have qualified for the national finals will be out to test the fishing waters of the lower Laguna Madre Bay.
ESPN2 network has been closely monitoring the tournament and providing coverage, sponsored nationally by Oberto Beef Jerky. Millions will watch the action on the network as it develops off the coast of the South Texas barrier Island.
At stake, in addition to the prize money, is the prestigious opportunity to get your team name carved on to the coveted Redfish Cup.
The Redfish Cup is owned and operated by Redfish Nation, a group dedicated to redfish enthusiasts from coast to coast and a leader in angler education and promotion of sport fishing and conservation in general.
Also a popular spectator sport, Fishbones Pier & Grill will play host to a number of vendors and food booths and report there will be other spectator activities and events in which to participate.
Teams from Florida, Texas, North Carolina, Louisiana and other states will be participating in the championship round a chance at the prize money. First place winning team will receive $40,000 while the second place team will receive a $15,000 purse. The top 35 teams win cash prizes.
