History of Texas and Winter Texans
Well, it's really no secret how Texas came about in the first place - not if you know the lore and legends of the Lone Star State. First, most everybody knows that the Good Lord was - well - pretty bored one day with the rest of the world.
He was proud of all he had created, but found little flaws in every part of the world. In England there was a great deal of fog. Tokyo still tremored with earthquakes from time to time. In France - well - there were French. Even the Hawaiian Islands were prone to volcanic disruptions and upheaval.
Across the Western Ocean, the U.S. East was too rich and lazy. In the North and Midwest too much winter, and the Southwest was too dry. Out West was full of wild Indians and smog.
So, in his wisdom and desire for perfection, he smiled upon the wastelands that are now Texas and healed the land, But not completely. He
wanted to preserve the ruggedness as a reminder of how great was his raw creation, before the finishing touches.
While it took him but a few days to make the world, the Creator spent nearly a month on Texas, marking each lake and river; each valley and hill top. He grazed her with rolling meadows and fertile coastal plains. He added the hills and mountains to make her reach toward the heavens; the swaps and wetlands to give her drink for prosperity. He filled her soil with rich minerals and petroleum; her fields with cotton and vegetables and fruits galore.
In her midst he placed great cities and communities and called them Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, Tyler, Kerrville, Utopia, Paris, Earth, Austin, McAllen, Corpus Christi, South Padre Island, and others.
In her forests and valleys and hills he put abundant wildlife; deer, antelope, bear, and mountain lion, and birds of every color and size and description. He designed great parks and outdoor facilities, and hundreds of miles of unspoiled beach.
And then, in the second month, he created the people he would have to live and work there, to nurture the state to greatness. He created happy people, and generally an honest and hard working folk. He gave them good manners, a natural ability to be friendly and courteous, and a strange sense of humor.
And he looked at what he had created and was pleased, but found one imperfection. There was a spice missing from the mix; an ingredient needed to balance the overall flavor and stability of the Lone Star State.
Being a perfectionist, the Creator looked long and far for the perfect missing ingredient, and found it in the most unlikely places; places like Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Ohio - and so forth.
And he called them Winter Texans, and brought them forth in masses to balance his creation called Texas. And - now - with the perfect recipe for a Heaven on Earth, Texas is complete.
