Oldest County Fair in Texas
August 24-27 in Historic Fredericksburg
|
It's the oldest, continuously running county fair in Texas, the Gillespie County Fair, staged at the fairgrounds in Fredericksburg, and the premiere county fair of the Lone Star State by which all others could be judged.
For 118 straight years, the Gillespie County Fair has been the highlight of the summer season for residents near and far - a time when area farmers and ranchers gather to show their best stock and crop; where moms and grandmoms bake their finest blue-ribbon pies; and the kids proudly show their special agriculture projects.
It's also a time for hard working rural folk to let their hair down and 'kick up the rug' to celebrate the coming harvest before the changing of the seasons.
This year’s fair is complete with pari-mutuel horse racing, simulcast racing, carnival midway, livestock and agricultural exhibits, antique tractors & machinery, arts & crafts and dancing under the Hill Country sky.
Entertainment will be headlined by Asleep At The Wheel and country singer Darrell McCall. Also, Miss Leslie and the Juke Jointers will perform.
The 118th GILLESPIE COUNTY FAIR brings four action filled days and nights at the “oldest, continuously running county fair in Texas”. Whether it’s the carnival, the livestock and agricultural exhibits, or the arts & crafts, antique tractors & machinery, or the thrill of horse racing and live entertainment, there's something for everyone at this historic event.
