Raise a lantern and ring in the New Year with tradition, or, as they say in Chinese: Gong Xi Fa Cai!
You will get a chance to do exactly that when the New Tang Dynasty TV brings the Chinese New Year Spectacular Myth and Legends Gala to Dallas and Houston in February.
The show uses dance dramas to re-tell legends that evoke the beauty and grandeur of the golden age of China during the Tang Dynasty and that continue to shape Chinese culture today.
The international cast of vocalists, musicians, and classical Chinese dancers transform the stage into a breathtaking world of brave warriors, graceful heavenly maidens, loyal souls, mythical dragons, and exhilarating drummers against a background of sumptuous music, striking scenery, and gorgeous costumes to create a magical evening that lets you put your daily cares aside.
Giant drums roar with righteous thunder, transporting you to a realm where honor, virtue and human kindness really matter—which is really what the holiday spirit is about. OperaOnline.us calls the show “a subtle reminder of the commonality of mankind's quest for spirituality and goodness”.
Originating in New York City in 2004 as The Chinese New Year Global Gala, the show has been renamed to reflect the all-new songs and dances and the now full, live orchestra.
Billboard Magazine rates the show as the 7th largest show in the United States. It is also the largest overseas New Year celebration that in 2007 is anticipated to play to over 100,000 people. Headquartered in New York City, New Tang Dynasty TV carries both Chinese and English programs and is the leading independent, nonprofit Chinese language television broadcaster overseas.
The company aims to enrich the lives of its viewers, and to foster understanding between Chinese and Western societies.
Catch the Chinese New Year Spectacular Feb. 4-5 at the Charles W. Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts in Richardson, and Feb. 2-3 at Cullen Performance Hall on the University of Houston campus.
