Brave New Radio - the Next Generation!
By now you have discovered this web site is sporting a brand new audio stream we call Winter Texan Radio. While still in the early stages of our BETA testing, excitement continues to build over this new concept in targeted radio programming.

Without question, modern technology of the new century is pushing our lives into a world full of information and entertainment. Soon - very soon - the telephone as we know it will be obsolete. So will the television, the DVD player, the radio, the home stereo...and more.

Why Internet Radio?
Where once your home was invaded by telephone wires and cable hookups, Internet DSL connections and stereo/home entertainment cables that stretched across the walls and along the baseboards, soon there will be a single fiber optic cable that provides all the service you need: on demand movies in hi-definition viewing, television and cable shows, radio stations, phone service, Internet connections (really fast Internet connections), and more. Your car will have wireless devices for phone, Internet and video services - wherever and whenever you're on the move.

In fact, the changes are already taking place. Industry leaders project the next five years will change the face of information technology and will dictate how we all use the phone, watch the TV and listen to the radio. Needless to say, the changes in the information and broadcast industry will be revolutionary.  Already the industry is gearing up for massive changes in the way they present their product to the public. And very soon, you will listen to your favorite radio station the same place you use your Internet and watch your television - at home, on the road, in the car and at work -- ONE device providing all the services. When that day arrives - (in 4-7 years) - Internet radio will have equal appeal and access as traditional celestial-based stations, with one advantage: Visual enhancement!

While we're still currently limited by bandwidth. connectivity speed and data formatics, the marriage of radio (audio) and video is well on its way. In less time than you realize, you'll be listening to the radio and will be treated with simultaneous video feeds to go along with the programming. That could be in the form of actual music videos, or ambient video while the music plays, or videophone talk shows where you and the show host and guest all have visual contact.

Wintertexans.com is proud to partner with Lost Planet Media in taking the first step into the future. While our Internet radio station is still gearing up to become the 'station of the future', we will start presenting some remedial interactive visuals to our audio streaming in the weeks ahead. We also have plans to introduce some on-demand streaming video of shows and events our station will be covering.

In other words, in the near future, don't be surprised if a Lost Planet Media van pulls up at your RV park or at a National Park or facility to broadcast a live radio show, including streaming video.

You might just be the radio/video star of the future!

Initially, Winter Texan Radio and partner AllTexasLive.com (a project of Lost Planet Media) will team to offer unique programming that captures the very spirit of Texas. Our radio music programming will include not only Texas artists and musicians, but other music and artists that embody the "Lone Star State of Mind."  Our special programming will include information radio shows, like Diesel Dave's 19th Hole Golf Show. We'll also be presenting special weekly shows: like special jazz programming, Texas music hours, blues shows, radio swap meets (tradio), and talk shows for active lifestyles.

Our goal is to build the first and most complete radio station in the world that appeals to the lifestyles of those that appreciate the outdoors; who enjoy a good road trip; who want something more than the norm, and who have a passion for all things TEXAS.

A Word About Streaming Quality
Please be aware that our current stream is in the testing stage. We have not moved to our dedicated servers or the streaming company we have selected to make our broadcast available to the world. What this means, simply, is we are currently streaming our audio without all the proper equipment, bells and whistles, in an effort to work out the bugs before we officially cut the ribbon and launch our full service station to the world.

But we thought - what the heck -  while we tune it up, we might as well make it available to our community of viewers (and listeners) who can at least get a little preview of what's to come. There's not much programming there at the moment, but you're welcome to listen to the music, and the rapid improvements and changes that are coming for Winter Texan Radio.

Keep in mind, we are using our own server absent of all the software that makes the signal and programming seamless and high fidelity. And we are very limited on bandwidth, so when a few hundred listeners are tuned in at the same time, the quality degrades rapidly. This, of course, will be remedied when we move to the new servers later this month.

If you are simply clicking on the link to listen  (and listening from the red screen page), then you are barely getting a 20kbps stream - terrible audio quality. You can increase the quality of that stream now by downloading the free DESTINY player and tuning into Winter Texan Radio on the "Mixed Format" section of their station selection screen. (Download Free Player Here) You should get at least 56kbps, which is basically CD quality (depending on how many listeners are tuned in at one time).

Take a moment to look over a portion of our upcoming lineup (in the column to the right). And watch for regular updates and changes to both this page and the online radio station in the days and weeks ahead. Step into the future, and discover Lost Planet Media, All Texas Live, and Winter Texan Radio. We're putting a combined 60 years of radio experience to work for you. Watch the project grow!

And thanks for listening.  Back To Home Page
